Obesity levels in England are increasing every year, but do people know the true extent of overweight and obesity, and the likely impact of obesity on their health?

The amount of children and adolescents who are overweight or obese is becoming a serious problem in the UK. The latest Health Survey for England (HSE) data shows us that over 1 in 10 children aged 2-10, are obese. In 2007, the Government predicted that if no action was taken, 25% of children would be obese by 2050. There is also a significant burden on the NHS, direct costs caused by obesity are estimated to be £4.2billion per year and are forecasted to be more than double by 2050 if we continue as we are.
